Just before Christmas I headed up to my hometown of Huntingdon near Cambridge to visit my Granny, on the way we popped into the newly built Rushden Lakes Shopping Destination.
As a child growing up there were only two obvious places to shop, Peterborough or Cambridge, but now it’s lovely to have somewhere to go which is all in one area. You park the car for free, shop, eat, drink and can then pop for a nature walk or even try your hand at bike riding or canoeing while you are there.
The area has such natural beauty and I’m delighted that it’s a place you can take the whole family and everyone can have fun.
We started by heading over to Bills Restaurant which is situated on the lake, its such a beautiful spot overlooking the water, I literally can’t wait to go back in the summer and sit outside and take the scenery in. The service was fantastic and there was such a good vibe with families enjoying the relaxed environment while enjoying good food and drink. I went with a Lamb Burger and a glass of Fizz, it was so good I’ve already been back to have it again, the New Year really starts in March right?
All the shops at Rushden lakes are extensive which means they have fantastic stock depth and most of the collections to shop from. Next is almost like a lifestyle store with all clothing departments to choose from and a COSTA Coffee shop at the top.
The Primark is colossal; I don’t think I’ve ever seen such a big stand alone store. There are all departments to shop from and there is something for the whole family as well as homewear.
There is a House of Frasier department store with a fantastic cosmetics floor, again most of the concessions are big which means you can book in for a make-up lesson or have your make-up professionally applied before an event.
Rushden Lakes also boasts other retailers like River Island, New Look, Marks and Spencer, H&M, Accessorize, Jigsaw, Paperchase, Jack Wills, Phase Eight and to add to the restaurant list, Pizza Express and Wagamama are coming soon which is fantastic news for us as they have a brilliant GF menu, it means my daughter can enjoy her lunch or dinner with the whole family and not feel left out with her packed lunch box.
The area is a protected nature reserve with the most stunning wetlands and sunset if you get there at the right time like we did you will most defiantly be blown away. The Nene Wetlands Visitor Centre is a must if you have children. They will love looking out for the nature on the trail and learning more about the species that live there.
We loved it and I know you will too.
